Environ.
(def).
To Surround, to encircle, to envelop.
Taking the immediate topography as a starting point, this body of work deconstructs and reconstructs a documented view and considers the consequence of the viewers place in this environment. With reference to the conservation ethic of NZ artist John Holmwood (ref Relic of the Forest, 1956) and the populist romantic realism of Peter McIntyre the images are transformed beyond the observed and recorded, giving an opportunity to contemplate landscape in a subjective way and reconsider ideas of realism and optical reality.
