Galleon Ship is a group show featuring some of the artists who participate in Cloud Workshop, Tāmaki Makaurau.
This initiative is an ongoing art project for bereaved children which aims to provide strength, comfort and enrichment through art making, thinking creatively, and the solidarity and company of others in a similar boat. It’s focus is to enable a voice for the voiceless, provide a safe and fun place for art making, and acknowledge the huge burden upon the bereaved young person. Cloud Workshop is lead by Deborah Smith, for more information please visit the website cloudworkshop.co.nz
Galleon Ship riffs on the Nick Cave song of the same title -
For we are not alone, it seems
So many riders in the sky
The winds of longing in their sails
Searching for the other side
The artists and designers will mess with scale in true Gulliverian style, embracing the outsize, the undersize and the in-between. Expect watercolors, talismanic sculptures, backdrops, photography, woodwork, Te-ami rocks, charms & more.
We have an opening event tonight Friday October 7th, 5-7pm. We have 8 of the artist present, all welcome to attend.
