Perhaps my interest in the territory has developed over the years of exhibiting various artists work, as well as also visiting artists in their studios and then experiencing the work later in say a gallery environment. It keeps on occurring to me that from an artists perspective there is an attending presence of persona or sensibility drawn from their own very being or the existence of another, (or another thing). It may be that this is stating the obvious, a bit of a cliche, but this is not something which is often tangible to a viewer. Not for a while anyway.

Of course depending on an almost infinite number of worldwide influences, ensuing generations of artists look to make things that represent a world in itself and in relation to them being in it. The notion of representation of the person is fluid, variable and in constant perpetuity. However from the artists vantage and making it is unlikely to be, in appearance, straightforward. The other thing that occurs to me is that the work I am considering in this territory isn’t prone to depicting time in a linear manner, so maybe there are also thoughts taking place in this

(A human being) is an existence carving itself out in space, shattering in chaos, exploding in pandemonium, netting itself, a scarcely breathing animal, in the webs of death.

Michel Foucault, in Introduction to Le Reve et l’Existence, 1954.
