The title references a part of the theatre stage, more specifically the initial part of the stage considered the metaphorical frontal plane of vertical space. It also can be considered a social construct that separates the artist from the audience.

This suite of paintings has been carefully staged demonstrating a cunning economical use of space, dividing up the surface area in various ways playing with composition. References of landscape and architectural structure feature strongly within these works as an act to align oneself to the landscape bringing the spiritual and psychological together, real and imagined forms.

The repetitive geometrical patterns of these works, with considered content, align with formal painting techniques, engage and play with the forms and legacies of European modernism.
