Seascapes

The small works in this show have all been painted in the last three months.

They are my contemporary account of the timeless ocean and coast of this region, from Napier Beach up to the Mahia Peninsula.

In the months before I began this series I was looking for a new subject matter and in my search for new views of Hawke’s Bay, I had almost overlooked what was right on my doorstep.

I was inspired to paint these works documenting the passage of night to day and day to night through simply waking up one day and watching the sunrise through my kitchen window.

I like the idea that these coastal views are timeless and although they are contemporary documents of the now, these views have remained relatively unchanged for centuries.

These works are a celebration of the power and ever changing splendor of Nature, the inspiring place that I call home, and the expressive and illusionistic qualities of the medium of oil paint.
