A Steady Gaze

A Steady Gaze presents us with a curated show by Vanessa Arthur. An exhibition exploring the sensation of a “forever presence”. The different spaces and textures these artists are employing along with joy and hesitation, traverse with grace a series of complex material expressions.

Exploring simultaneously old/new objects and paintings, these art works come across problems of technology and the screen, with direct answers, imbedding the reply in figured surfaces. Vanessa observes further “(figurative or not) these are works that you can physically sense gazing back, even when not directly viewing” *

All artists explore through touches of the delicate, suspensions in time. We become witness, see spaces go effervescent. The tyranny of small distances are diminished as this “sense” of an artists guiding touch links immensities, an inviting gesture, gives way to tiny intimacies across an object.

Each artists thoughtful attention to the viewers mind sees the art works as burning torches of care. In the space of this carefully curated show the art becomes vector and interconnected zones of delight and difference, the wild spaces between the works “….shooting straight from the future”*, in a space of now.
