A Lot Meant (Allotment)
I have always been interested in the contradiction between Humans wanting to change the natural environment but at the same time trying to revert everything back to the way it was.
Like the ‘Rumbunctious Garden’ by Emma Marris suggests, there is no going back, that the natural world has been irreversibly altered. The idea that humans and natural events have changed the environment to the degree that we must work with that.
The imperfect world we live in can still work and be of value. The disused carpark full of weeds and bees. The tree that doesn’t belong, home to a birds and insects that have adapted. An allotment full of families feeding themselves while letting the wild world work too.
A forest garden is the world I’ve ended up in, like an allotment, feeding a community but still accommodating nature.
The concept of the allotment represents the Utopia I work from; the partly cultivated, partly wild rambunctious garden, devoid of the notion that things must be perfect. When you take a step back, you can see the imperfect beauty in Nature.
I’ve walked into this world with joy and enthusiasm. I’ve created objects that will put hope in your heart and a smile on your face.
