The Three of Cups is the tarot’s ultimate card of celebration, community, and friendship. Upright, it signals a joyful time to gather with your community, enjoy social harmony, and celebrate shared achievements or milestones.

This exhibition draws upon the symbolic language of the Three of Cups to present three generations of makers, Bronnwynne Cornish, Vanessa Arthur and Cat Fooks. Each with their own distinct voice, this exhibition presents moments of connection and interplay.

Bronwynne Cornish a Tāmaki based artist who has devoted her life to the ceramic medium. Engaged in a practice of hand built fired material Cornish has an ongoing interest in mythology and nature spirits. Her work looks at the bridge between animals and people and their shared characteristics.

Cat Fooks is a painter who works across materials and disciplines. She uses reconstitution as a means of searching; repeatedly pillaging, cropping and reapplying elements of her previous output into new works that express the virtues of paint and materiality

Vanessa Arthur is a mixed media artist. Her practice cannot be pigeon holed into one discipline. Her work crosses over into sculpture, jewelry and painting. Vanessa’s work is influenced by documentation and excavation of spaces within the built urban environment.
